Samyang Tire produced its first tire in 1961, and settled technological ties with UNI Royal in the United States in 1963. By 1976, Kumho Tire was producing more than one million tires per year and breaking records as a Korea-based tire manufacturer.
In 2003, Kumho Tire ranked ninth in the world tire industry. In 2009, the company began supplying original equipment truck tires to Benz, a first for any Korean tire manufacturer.
